Wild Thing Poker
Hold on to your stool, Wild Thing Poker is something wildly different. Just when you thought they had come up with just about every possible video poker game, think again. Wild Thing Poker is an original version of stud poker, developed by IGT (International Game Technology). It is really three games in one. There are 3 stud poker hands to play: 3-card stud poker, 5-card stud poker and 7-card stud poker. There is a different paytable for each phase of the game. But that’s not all; there are 3 different wild card suits in the deck. It sounds wild, doesn’t it?
For a full description of how to play this game read further below. We will also try to sketch out a strategy for this complex game at the bottom of this page.

How to Play Wild Thing Poker
Here’s the deal. The player can place up to 5 coin bets for each of the stud poker hands (3-card, 5-card and 7-card). Place an initial bet to begin the game. The machine will deal for you 7 cards, 3 face-up and the rest face-down. For the first 3-card stud poker hand the 3’s become wild cards which can stand in for any other card’s rank and/or suit. The player will receive a pay according to the Wild 3 Hand pay table:
Wild 3 Card Hand |

---|---|---|---|---|---|
Poker Hands | Coin 1 | Coin 2 | Coin 3 | Coin 4 | Coin 5 |
Three 3's | 10 | 20 | 30 | 40 | 50 |
Straight Flush | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 | 20 |
Flush | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 10 |
Straight | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
The player must complete at least a 3-card straight to win a
1:1 payout. Any win at this point of the game will be displayed
within a Blue Box beneath the cards.
The player now has a choice to see the next 2 cards by placing a second bet (the same amount as placed on the first 3-card hand). To see the next two cards simply press on the deal button again. If you feel you don’t have enough good cards, you may press the Fold button and the hand ends here.
In this phase of the game the 5’s gain the wild symbol status (and the 3’s lose theirs). A payout will be made if the player has at least a 3-of-a-kind. Here’s the paytable for the 5-card poker hand:

Wild Royal Flush | 40 | 80 | 120 | 160 | 200 |
Straight Flush | 40 | 80 | 120 | 160 | 200 |
4 of a Kind | 10 | 20 | 30 | 40 | 50 |
Full House | 8 | 16 | 24 | 32 | 40 |
Flush | 6 | 12 | 18 | 24 | 30 |
Straight | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 | 20 |
3 of a Kind | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
The four 5’s in the deck makes it possible to create a 5-of-a-kind which is the second highest paying hand. If you had a 5 on the initial 3-card hand, you will see a faded symbol on it that says “Wild Thing”. This will remind you that you will have a wild card waiting if you place a bet to play the second phase of the game. Wins for the Wild 5-Card Hand will be displayed within a Green Box beneath the cards.
Finally, the player has the option to bet for a third time to see the last two cards. In this round, the 3’s and 5’s no longer serve as wild cards. Instead, the 7’s become the wild cards. Payouts will be made according to the 7-card poker pay table:
