Draw 6 Poker

IGT or International Game Technology has created some of the most entertaining variations of video poker games available today. IGT’s Draw 6 Poker is a multi-game video poker machine with a fun twist. The player receives one extra card to complete a 6 card poker hand IF a Three of a Kind has been dealt on the initial 5 card draw. The game can be played with your normal video poker strategy since most of the time you will not get that extra 6th card. Statistically, a Three of a Kind will appear on the initial draw once every 50 hands played.

The Draw 6 card feature is applied to pre-existing video poker games. The 4 poker games programmed for IGT’s Draw 6 Poker are:

Bonus Poker

Double Bonus Poker

Double Double Bonus Poker

Bonus Poker Deluxe

These four video poker games belong to the “bonus” poker family. They are characterized by having special “bonus” payouts for particular types of Four-of-a-Kinds. Below you will see how each paytable differs for each game.

Draw 6 Poker is found mostly in the West, especially in Nevada land casinos. IGT games have been flourishing in Reno and Las Vegas. Draw 6 Poker is available in IGT’s Game King (single-hand) machine.

How to Play Draw 6 Poker

Draw 6 Video Poker Video Poker Fans you will certainly enjoy this game. It is quite simple to play, you don’t need to learn any new rule or apply different poker odds to the game. Simply choose your favorite of the four Bonus Poker games. Insert coins, bill or money ticket into the machine. All games are played with a 52-card deck; since the “bonus” poker games don’t have any wild cards. Select how many bets per hand you want to wager and then press the Deal Button.

If you are not dealt a Three of a Kind or Full House then the game will follow a normal course. Selected cards will be held and by pressing the Deal button again a new set of cards will be drawn for the discarded cards.

Now, if a Three of a Kind is dealt then the player MUST hold the 3 cards in order to get a complimentary 6th card. The other two cards are optional to hold. At the end of the play the player will have 6 cards but the machine will choose the best 5 cards in order to create the highest ranking poker hand. The payouts are made according to each game’s paytable. Here’s a sample of IGT’s Draw 6 Poker paytables:

Bonus Poker Paytable

Bonus Poker
Poker Hand 1 Coin
Royal Flush 800
Straight Flush 50
Four Aces 80
Four 2-4's 40
Four 5-King's 25
Full House 6
Flush 5
Straight 3
Three of a kind 3
Two pair 2
Jacks or Better 1

This is not your standard Bonus Poker paytable. Every video poker game that gives the player an extra advantage (in this case, the 6th extra card) will try to regain its edge by cutting short some payouts. Draw 6 Poker has cut down the normal payout for Full House and Straight which pay 1 credit less per one-coin bets.

Double Bonus Poker Paytable

Double Bonus Poker
Poker Hand 1 Coin
Royal Flush 800
Straight Flush 50
Four Aces 160
Four 2-4 80
Four 5-King’s 50
Full House 8
Flush 5
Straight 4
Three of a kind 3
Two pair 1
Jacks or Better 1

This video poker game gets its name because it doubles the payout for the Four-of-a-Kinds of the Bonus Poker paytable. In this case, the poker hands that get a lesser payout due to the 6th card advantage are: Full House, Flush and Straight.

Double Double Bonus Poker Paytable

Double Double Bonus Poker
Poker Hand 1 Coin
Royak Flush 800
Straight Flush 50
Four Aces + 2-4 400
Four 2-4’s + A-4 160
Four Aces 160
Four 2-4 80
Four 5-King’s 50
Full House 6
Flush 4
Straight 3
Three of a kind 3
Two pair 1
Jacks or Better 1

This poker game differs from the previous two because it has more different types of Four-of-a-Kinds. The standard Double Double Bonus Poker game normally has higher payouts for Full House and Straight; sometimes as high as 9 coins for a Full House on a one-coin bet. As we mentioned before, the extra 6th card is responsible for this change.

Bonus Poker Deluxe Paytable

Bonus Poker Deluxe
Poker Hand 1 Coin
Royal Flush 800
Straight Flush 50
Four of a kind 80
Full House 5
Flush 4
Straight 3
Three of a kind 3
Two pair 1
Jacks or Better 1

This is the simplest of all bonus poker games. The bonus payout is just for one type of Four of a Kind. Again, certain payouts are below the standard. Full Houses sometimes pay up to 8 coins on a one-coin bet; while Flushes pay up to 6 credits on a normal Bonus Poker Deluxe machine.

Draw 6 Poker provides an interesting variation to all these “bonus” poker games. As we have noted under each paytable, there are some lower payouts for some poker hands. However, there is one great advantage for the player besides the 6th card draw. All the games provide an 800 coin jackpot on a one-coin bet for the Royal Flush. This is a significant increase from the standard 250 credit payout that most video poker machines pay for the King of Poker Hands.
