Deuces and Joker Video Poker

internet video poker
Deuces and Joker is one of the most entertaining Video Poker machines because there is always a good chance of getting a winning hand. This video poker machine is played with a 53-card deck. The extra card is a Joker, a wild card that can stand in as any other cardís denomination and/or suit, making it easier for the player to create a winning poker hand. Deuces or Twoís are also considered wild cards, further increasing the playerís probabilities of winning.

However, there is a catch. The lowest paying poker hand is a three-of-a-kind. Also, since there are 5 wild cards, itís not difficult to obtain straights, flushes, full houses and four-of-a-kinds. For this reason the paytable has lowered the payouts for these poker hands, which are normally high-paying in other standard video poker machines such as Jacks or Better.

The standard video poker paytable has been considerably modified. In Deuces and Joker, the highest paying hand is four deuces and a joker and not the Royal Flush. This bonus hand pays 10,000 but only on 5-coin bets. The next highest-paying hand is a natural Royal Flush which on a 5-coin bet will pay the standard 4,000 coin jackpot. New hands have been added to this paytable such as 4-deuces and five-of-a-kinds.

A standard Deuces and Joker paytable looks like this:

Hand combinations Coin 1 Coin 2 Coin 3 Coin 4 Coin 5
Four deuces and a joker -- -- -- -- 10000
Natural royal flush 250 500 750 1000 4000
Four deuces 25 50 75 100 125
Wild royal flush 12 24 36 48 60
Five of a kind 9 18 27 36 45
Straight flush 6 12 18 24 30
Four of a kind 3 6 9 12 15
Full house 3 6 9 12 15
Flush 3 6 9 12 15
Straight 2 4 6 8 10
Three of a kind 1 2 3 4 5

Always play the machine with 5-coin bets for every hand. Getting the top-paying 4-deuces and Joker hand on a 4-coin bet or less wonít deliver a single penny.

Understanding the Wild Cards in Deuces and Joker

Deuces and Joker Video Poker

Weíve been playing many Deuces and Joker online video poker machines and we estimate that a wild card will appear in every second or third hand. It is important to take maximum advantage of these cards so the payback rate of the machine increases. Most Deuces and Joker machines have a 98% or more payback rate. However, this is only true if you play with the optimal Deuces and Joker strategy.

It is important to understand that a Wild Card can be substituted for both any other cardís denomination AND any suit. Again, having so many wild cards in the deck makes it easier to get straights and flushes, so as a general rule make sure to hold 3 or 4 cards to any straight, flush, straight flush and Royal Flush every time you get them on the initial draw.

Basic Tips and Strategies for Deuces and Joker Video Poker

Any three-of-a-kind will make a winning hand, no matter what the value of the three cards is. When having a deuce in your initial hand without yet completing a three-of-a-king or other winning hand, hold any other card with the deuce. Donít only hang on the high cards, as they are of no special value in Deuces and Joker. Only if you have two high cards of the same suit plus a wild card, then you should hold these three in hope of a Wild Royal Flush.

The paytable wonít be paying big amounts before the Full House, so keep in mind that you are trying to create stronger poker hands compared to other video poker machines. Keeping a low or high pair on the initial draw without having any of the wild cards will probably get you a three-of-a-kind after the deal. However, notice first if you have at least three to a wild/natural Royal Flush or straight flush, or at least 4 to a normal flush or open-ended straight.

Undo a winning straight if you are one or two cards away from a Natural or Wild Royal Flush. For example, having a Deuce, Queen, King and Ace of Diamonds and a 10 of Spades on the initial draw, drop the 10 in order to create the Royal Flush. There are good odds for getting a Jack or 10 of diamonds and if you donít, you can still get another Queen, King or Ace to create a three-of-a-kind.
